#TakeAKnee

I am encouraging you to #TakeAKnee.

#TakeAKnee and humble yourselves. The world does not owe you anything. We do not want what we deserve, because we deserve death. We are all black hearted sinners in need of a savior. Lucky for us we have a gracious and loving Father who took that punishment and bore it for us so we may have eternal life. We think people should get what they deserve, but instead Jesus got what we deserved when He died on that cross on Calvary. So when your entitled-self starts feeling you deserve something, just remember:

Psalm 103

10 he does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities. 11 For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love for those who fear him; 12 as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us.

#TakeAKnee and be thankful. How do you expect the masses to get behind a cause that screams their oppressions, but never outwardly gives thanks? It’s like a spoiled child that always wants more and is never satisfied. Eventually people just want to say stop whining. But more importantly, giving thanks keeps our hearts in the right place. You can be thankful even when you are unhappy with the circumstance. You can be thankful when you are hurt or mad. Giving thanks no matter what prevents harmful emotions and attitudes. None of this is to say you should not speak out against injustice. We are called to do so. But, as in prayer, when you stand before others with a message, begin with thanks.

1 Thessalonians 5

18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.

#TakeAKnee and ask God for help. Without God, nothing is possible. Our hearts will never be satisfied; we will never know peace or love. As this country pulls away from God, we also turn away from each other. We are searching for something we will never find apart from God. We are so lost and we don’t even know it. God is good and He keeps his promises. He promises to work for good and give you everything you need. He offers salvation, eternal life, and victory over death. If you have God, what else do you need?

2 Chronicles 7

14 if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.

#TakeAKnee and serve your community. Knelling during the National Anthem does not solve problems. Protesting in the streets does not solve problems. Hashtags on social media do not solve problems. Blaming other people does not solve problems. As cliché as it is, “Be the change you wish to see.” Donating money to organizations that are working to improve education in schools solves problems. Being positive role models for children solves problems. Setting up foundations to offer scholarships to students solves problems. Lobbying and respectfully influencing congress solves problems. Starting after school programs for youth solves problems. Publicly improving relations between citizens and law enforcement solves problems. Sponsoring a child solves problems. Using your platform and hero-like image to encourage children to stay in school solves problems. So let me ask you new “social justice warriors” a question…What are you doing when you are not on the field?

1 Peter 4

10 Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God's grace in its various forms.

#TakeAKnee and propose to your baby mommas. Our children need fathers. Our children need intact families. You want to change the culture of this perpetual cycle, then raise your babies. Society has “progressed” so far from traditional family structure, but yet we question why things seem to be getting worse. It is not a coincidence, it’s a correlation. The data doesn’t lie. Children in single parent households do not have the same economic resources available. They are more likely to drop out of school, have involvement in gang related activity, be subject to teen pregnancy, and experience divorce or never marry in adulthood, thus perpetuating the cycle of single parent households. And the number of single parent households continues to increase. There is evidence based research to support that a mother and father figure in a child’s life plays a vital role in the success of that child.

Proverbs 20

7 The righteous man walks in his integrity; blessed are their children after them.

#TakeAKnee for 10,078 minutes of the week, but for the two minutes our flag is on that field and our anthem is being played, #StandUp.

Resonate on the words of our pledge for a moment. We are promising our allegiance to a flag and the Republic it stands for. A Republic that stands for one indivisible nation. A Republic that stands for the liberty and justice of all people. This flag stands for everything we want. So why don’t you stand for it?

#StandUp for our country.

#StandUp for the men and women who serve.

#StandUp for the freedoms you have.

#StandUp for the changes you want to see.

#StandUp for the unity of our nation.

#StandUp for liberty and justice for all.

Psalms 133

7 How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity.
